Media Player: Supported Formats

Audio and Video

Here's a list of all of our supported audio and video formats:

Audio: mp3, wav, ogg, m4a
Video:  .mov, .mp4, .m4v, .avi, .flv, .mpg, .mpeg

Audio and video support is also browser-dependent, so we generally recommend using MP3 for audio, and MP4 for video, as they have the best cross-browser performance.

You can also embed content using iFrame tags. See the Session Media Embed Code article for more information on how to do that, as well as common gotchas. You can embed YouTube and Vimeo videos with just the URL*.

For advanced users, here are links explaining the HTML5 our media player is built from:

In order to ensure cross-browser compatibility, Kannu only supports PDF documents for display. If your portal has document conversion enabled, you'll be able to upload any of the following filetypes, which will be automatically converted to PDF:

Documents: doc, docx, wpd, wps, odt, pdf
Spreadsheets: csv, xlr, xls, xlsx, ods
Presentations: pps, ppsx, ppt, pptx, odp

NOTE: Keynote files (.kth) are not supported in the conversion, so make sure to convert/export them to a Powerpoint filetype before uploading.

If your portal doesn't have document conversion enabled, you'll need to export your file to a PDF, and upload it that way.

*Kannu does not support YouTube playlists, so if you want to embed a video that's part of one, make sure to either remove the URL parameter "?list=xxxxxxxxxxxxx", or you can click the share button under the YouTube video, uncheck the "Share with playlist" box, and use the URL provided there.
